Aquino signs upgrade of Davao Regional Hospital to regional medical center

President Benigno Simeon Aquino III has signed into law Republic Act 10678 converting the Davao Regional Hospital in Tagum City (DRH) into Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC).
The law provides for the appropriation of funds and the increase of bed capacity of the said hospital.
Compostela Valley Rep. Ma. Carmen Zamora said the original bill was filed by her father, then Rep. Manuel “Way Kurat” Zamora, several years back. She said they re-filed the bill in the 15th Congress and again in the present 16th Congress.

“This is a historical leap in our continuing efforts to bring affordable and accessible medical services to our people. Our long-running commitment shepherding the proposal into law has finally borne fruit. It took a long time for its realization, making it all the more sweeter,” the lady legislator said.
“We are very happy that fellow Representatives from the Davao Region such as Rep. Anthony del Rosario, joined the push for it through the legislative mill. Senator TG Guingona was also instrumental in the approval of a parallel bill in the Senate. It was a concerted endeavor really,” Rep. Zamora added.

RA 10678 upgrades the DRH into a 600-bed Regional Medical Center, a widely-recognized overdue development since the hospital has long been operating way beyond the ambit of its present administrative and operational capacities.
Rep. Zamora said that with the establishment of the DRMC, the people of Davao region, particularly those who have less in life, will be greatly benefited.
President Aquino signed it into law on August 26, 2015.

2014 PRISAA National Games Best Ever

Tagum City, Davao — Officials of the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) were all praises to the provincial government of Davao del Norte and the city government of Tagum for their unprecedented hosting of the on-going national collegiate games.
PRISAA National Chair Dr. Emmanuel Angeles said the province has set a new standard in the hosting of the annual event.

“The PRISAA venues in the coming years must learn from Davao del Norte,” he said, as he lauded Governor Rodolfo del Rosario for his great vision and plan for sports development, among other programs.
PRISAA President Dr. Ma. Lita Montalban hailed the working public-private partnership thrust of the province that set a record in the holding of the college sports conclave.
“This is the best ever hosting of the national PRISAA games,” she told members of the media before the opening rites.

About 10,000 delegates and spectators witnessed the grand kick-off ceremonies Sunday afternoon at the world-class Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex (DNSTC), with Philippine Sports Commissioner Akiko Thompson-Guevarra keynoting the opening extravaganza that was capped by a spectacular fireworks display.

Aside from being the first national PRISAA meet ever to be held in the Davao region, Montalban bared it is the first time in 61 years that the organization did not spend for the logistic of the games.
She acknowledged Gov. del Rosario for allotting P1.5 million, together with Mayor Allan Rellon who put up P250,000 for the event.

This enabled the association to only take care of allowances of athletes and officials, as well as, the integrity of the billeting quarters. She also cited the warmest welcome party, where no less than provincial and city officials personally receiving the delegates.
“Here, we feel that we are first-class citizens,” Montalban said, after lamenting the lack of government support to private schools sporting events in the past.

Del Rosario said the investment of the province and the city is well worth it given the gains of visitor spending in spurring the local economy.
“You cannot imagine the economic benefit that our province and city is getting out of it,” he said.
With each individual athlete given an allowance of P500 per day, the governor said over P2 million is daily added to the local economy within the duration of the games.

(R-L) PRISAA National Chair Dr. Emmanuel Angeles, PSC Commissioner Akiko Thompson-Guevara, Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario, Board Member Shirley Belen Aala and 1st District Cong. Anthony del Rosario welcome the delegates at the opening of the 2014 PRISAA national games.

Tagum’s giant Christmas tree lighting (Nov.20, 2013)

TAGUM CITY, Davao — This city’s kick-off of its Christmas season through the lighting of its 78-feet giant holiday tree was made more meaningful as survivors of Supertyphoon Yolanda from the devastated province of Leyte joined in the festivities last November 20, 2013.
Close to 10 families comprising of 35 individuals from Leyte—which greatly suffered the brunt of the strongest supertyphoon in history to make landfall—witnessed the festivities along with Tagumeños from all walks of life who flocked to the Freedom Park to take part in lighting the city’s Christmas icon.

It’s a different atmosphere from the totally devastated Leyte, said 45-year old Gina Jonale who sought refuge in Tagum along with her husband and three children, adding that she considers their “second life” the best Christmas present.
Their relatives fetched them in Leyte to start anew and rebuild all that was destroyed by Yolanda.

On the part of the local government, Mayor Allan Rellon welcomed them and stressed that the city government is more than willing to extend assistance to them. Upon his prior meeting with the refugees, Mayor Rellon initially offered aid in form of Sulong Dunong scholarships, food, clothing and possible employment for the heads of the family.
The local chief executive urged the public to make the Christmas season an opportunity to help those in need.

Other survivors said Wednesday’s ceremony made them hopeful for a brighter tomorrow despite of what they have gone through.
Thousands graced Wednesday’s highly-anticipated event, an annual tradition in Tagum that traces its roots wayback in 2000, which was highlighted by the 78-feet giant holiday tree that is hoisted in the heart of the city, all adorned with twinkling lights in form of flowers, stars, angels, birds, rain drops and palm trees. On top of it is the symbolic insignia of the EAGLE WINGS program of the current administration, which serves as compass of the LGU’s programs and policies.

Performances during the event are rendered by the Tagum City Chamber Chorale, the Tagum City Junior Symphonic Orchestra and the brass bands from Tagum City National Comprehensive High School and Tagum City National High School, and the finalists of the LGU-led amateur singing contest dubbed as Kantahan sa Tagum.

SDCP Property | PLANTATION VILLAS at The Banana Beach,Tagum City, Metro Davao

The Infinity Pool at the Banana Beach with ocean view.

Exploring the Future of Real Estate: Tagum City's Plantation Villas at Banana Beach

 — One of the things I absolutely love about my work in real estate is the excitement of seeing new developments unfold. It’s fascinating to watch an area transform over time and imagine the possibilities that will come with it. Recently, I had the privilege of being invited to explore a high-end project in Tagum City, Davao, with some of my fellow colleagues. What caught our attention? The stunning new Plantation Villas project, located within the lush and serene Banana Beach resort.

Banana Beach: Where Nature Meets Luxury If you haven’t heard of Banana Beach yet, it’s time to add it to your travel bucket list. This resort is more than just a place to relax by the water. It’s a paradise where you can enjoy pristine beaches, a refreshing infinity pool, serene river cruises, and even explore a banana plantation! For nature lovers, the forest is a perfect place for an adventurous stroll, and the local wildlife adds a dash of excitement—imagine seeing monkeys swinging from tree to tree as you walk along the elevated E-Walk! But what makes Banana Beach even more exciting is the new development taking place right within its borders. Enter Plantation Villas—a luxurious, high-end residential resort designed to offer the perfect “home away from home.”

Plantation Villas: A Retreat Like No Other The Plantation Villas project promises a serene, nature-filled lifestyle ideal for those seeking peace and tranquility—especially retirees. With lots starting at a generous 1,000 square meters, homeowners can design their villas as they please. Whether you choose to have the developer build your dream home or hire your own contractor, the flexibility is a huge perk. One of the standout features of Plantation Villas is the exclusive access it offers to all the incredible amenities at Banana Beach. Imagine waking up to a day of relaxation by the infinity pool, indulging in delicious meals at The Lanikai, or fishing at The Spot. If you’re a sports enthusiast, there are plenty of options for you too, including tennis courts, basketball courts, and beach sports facilities—all free for residents to enjoy.

A Day in the Jungle: A Wildlife Adventure The best part of our tour wasn’t just the development itself—it was the journey through Banana Beach’s forest that truly took my breath away. As we strolled along the E-walk (an elevated walkway through the treetops), we were treated to some pretty incredible wildlife sightings. We saw monkeys leaping from branch to branch, and although it was hard to capture them on camera, the experience was unforgettable. To add to the thrill, we spotted a wild pig and even an iguana—both moving too quickly to get a good shot. But in that moment, it didn’t matter. It was the kind of raw, natural beauty that makes this place so special.

A Community Built on Nature The combination of modern, high-end living and nature’s untouched beauty makes Plantation Villas the perfect investment for anyone looking for peace, privacy, and luxury. Whether you’re looking to retire in paradise or simply want a second home where you can escape the hustle and bustle of city life, this development is a dream come true. As a real estate professional, it's truly rewarding to witness how spaces like Banana Beach evolve over time. With the upcoming high-end residential resort, this area will undoubtedly be one of the most sought-after locations in Davao. Are you ready to explore the future of living at Banana Beach? Let’s connect, and I’ll help you discover how you can become part of this exciting new development!

A sample of how PPP can work in Tagum City

SDC Corporate News

TAGUM CITY, Davao
—The relocation and housing program of the city government got a boost with financial help from two of the country’s biggest real property developers.
Mayor Rey Uy said Sta. Lucia Realty and Amaia Land Corp. gave P5 million for the improvement of drainage systems and road concreting in at least three housing projects built under the city’s relocation and socialized housing projects.

Sta. Lucia sent P3.5 million while Amaia gave P1.5 million, he said.
The donations, Uy said, is part of the companies’ social responsibility program.
Under Republic Act No. 7279, which is also known as Urban Development Housing Act of 1992, developers are required to help develop an area for socialized housing, he said.
“Public-private partnership is vital in the development of socialized housing for the urban poor,” Uy said as he welcomed the help from the two companies.
He said the financial assistance from the two companies had been transferred to the city government’s trust fund.

It will be used in at least two relocations sites that host housing projects for city government workers—the Iga Uy Village and Laureta Homes, the mayor said.
Michael Ang, head of the city’s task force on resettlement and anti-squatting project, said the donations were prompted by the fact that Tagum City has more local government-initiated housing programs compared to other areas.

In 2009, the local government embarked on a housing project for city employees, becoming Southern Mindanao’s first local government to undertake such project.
Conceptualized through local legislation, the “city homes project” seeks to provide affordable housing units for local government workers.
The project eventually became the City Employees Village, which sits on a 59,849-square meter property in Barangay Magugpo.
