President Benigno Simeon Aquino III has signed into law Republic Act 10678 converting the Davao Regional Hospital in Tagum City (DRH) into Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC).
The law provides for the appropriation of funds and the increase of bed capacity of the said hospital.
Compostela Valley Rep. Ma. Carmen Zamora said the original bill was filed by her father, then Rep. Manuel “Way Kurat” Zamora, several years back. She said they re-filed the bill in the 15th Congress and again in the present 16th Congress.
“This is a historical leap in our continuing efforts to bring affordable and accessible medical services to our people. Our long-running commitment shepherding the proposal into law has finally borne fruit. It took a long time for its realization, making it all the more sweeter,” the lady legislator said.
“We are very happy that fellow Representatives from the Davao Region such as Rep. Anthony del Rosario, joined the push for it through the legislative mill. Senator TG Guingona was also instrumental in the approval of a parallel bill in the Senate. It was a concerted endeavor really,” Rep. Zamora added.
RA 10678 upgrades the DRH into a 600-bed Regional Medical Center, a widely-recognized overdue development since the hospital has long been operating way beyond the ambit of its present administrative and operational capacities.
Rep. Zamora said that with the establishment of the DRMC, the people of Davao region, particularly those who have less in life, will be greatly benefited.
President Aquino signed it into law on August 26, 2015.
