SDCP Economy | Robinsons Place Tagum: Powering Tagum City's Rise as a Premier Investment Hub in Mindanao

Perspective view of Robinsons Place Tagum

Tagum City, Davao del Norte — The economic momentum of Tagum City takes a significant leap forward as Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), one of the country’s leading real estate developers, invests in the city with the opening of Robinsons Place Tagum. This major development is part of RLC’s 2015 nationwide expansion strategy, which includes the launch of at least three new malls and the enhancement of existing properties.

Set to become a new lifestyle and commercial destination in Davao del Norte, Robinsons Place Tagum boasts a Gross Floor Area (GFA) of 50,000 square meters and a Gross Leasable Area (GLA) of 30,000 square meters. Strategically located in the heart of the city, the mall is designed to cater to the rising consumer demand in the region while providing opportunities for both local and national businesses to expand their footprint in Mindanao.

The entry of a top-tier developer like Robinsons Land is a clear vote of confidence in Tagum City’s robust economic potential and investor-friendly climate. As part of the Metro Davao Development Authority (MDDA), Tagum plays a key role in the broader vision for a unified and progressive southern Mindanao. With modern infrastructure, strong governance, and a rapidly growing population, the city is well-positioned to become a prime location for retail, commercial, and real estate investments.

Robinsons Place Tagum is more than just a shopping mall—it is a catalyst for urban development and job creation. It is expected to boost the local economy by attracting new businesses, generating employment, and enhancing the city’s attractiveness as a regional retail and lifestyle hub.

Why Invest in Tagum City?

  • Strategic Location: Positioned at the gateway of Davao del Norte and within Metro Davao, Tagum offers excellent connectivity to major cities in Mindanao.

  • Growth-Ready Infrastructure: With continuous upgrades in roads, transport, and utilities, the city is primed for rapid development.

  • Business-Friendly Environment: The local government actively supports investors through streamlined processes, incentives, and strong public-private partnerships.

  • Vibrant Consumer Market: A young, dynamic, and growing population ensures sustained demand for goods, services, and lifestyle experiences.

As Mindanao continues to open up to larger-scale investments, Tagum City stands out as a high-potential alternative to traditional urban centers. The establishment of Robinsons Place Tagum marks a significant milestone in this trajectory, signaling that the city is ready—and thriving—for the future of commerce, development, and inclusive growth.

With its elegant and cutting-edge design, Nicole’s 22nd Strip sets a new standard for commercial buildings in the region. A sample of how PPP can work in Tagum City

SDC Corporate News

TAGUM CITY, Davao
—The relocation and housing program of the city government got a boost with financial help from two of the country’s biggest real property developers.
Mayor Rey Uy said Sta. Lucia Realty and Amaia Land Corp. gave P5 million for the improvement of drainage systems and road concreting in at least three housing projects built under the city’s relocation and socialized housing projects.

Sta. Lucia sent P3.5 million while Amaia gave P1.5 million, he said.
The donations, Uy said, is part of the companies’ social responsibility program.
Under Republic Act No. 7279, which is also known as Urban Development Housing Act of 1992, developers are required to help develop an area for socialized housing, he said.
Public-private partnership is vital in the development of socialized housing for the urban poor,” Uy said as he welcomed the help from the two companies.
He said the financial assistance from the two companies had been transferred to the city government’s trust fund.

It will be used in at least two relocations sites that host housing projects for city government workers—the Iga Uy Village and Laureta Homes, the mayor said.
Michael Ang, head of the city’s task force on resettlement and anti-squatting project, said the donations were prompted by the fact that Tagum City has more local government-initiated housing programs compared to other areas.

In 2009, the local government embarked on a housing project for city employees, becoming Southern Mindanao’s first local government to undertake such project.
Conceptualized through local legislation, the “city homes project” seeks to provide affordable housing units for local government workers.
The project eventually became the City Employees Village, which sits on a 59,849-square meter property in Barangay Magugpo.

Life And Style | Tagum City Glows Bright: A Holiday Tradition Illuminates a Rising Urban Star in Mindanao

Tagum City Lights Up the Holidays with Grand Christmas Tree; Shines as a Rising Urban Hub in Mindanao

Tagum City Davao – November 16, 2011 — In a dazzling display of lights and unity, Tagum City officially ushered in the holiday season with the ceremonial lighting of its iconic 33.10-meter (108.60-foot) Holiday Tree at the Freedom Park, nestled just behind the city hall. With over 253,000 twinkling bulbs in festive shades of red, green, and blue, and an additional 2,000 meters of string lights in red, green, and yellow combinations, the towering tree has once again captured the hearts of thousands who flocked to witness the spectacle.

The lighting ceremony was led by Tagum City Mayor Rey T. Uy, accompanied by city government officials, symbolizing the spirit of hope, unity, and celebration that the season brings. Among the distinguished guests was Mr. Wu Chian Hua, Secretary of the Consul General of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, who attended along with a delegation from the Chinese Embassy. Residents, visitors, and dignitaries alike gathered to marvel at the luminous landmark, a proud tradition that continues to make Tagum a beacon of community celebration and cultural pride in the Davao Region.

This annual holiday event does more than illuminate the city—it underscores Tagum’s steady rise as one of Mindanao’s most promising urban centers. Once known for its agricultural roots, Tagum City is now rapidly emerging as a strategic hub for business, trade, and tourism in southern Philippines.

Strategically located at the heart of Davao del Norte, Tagum boasts an efficient infrastructure network, a progressive local government, and an investor-friendly climate. With its increasing number of commercial establishments, business parks, and educational institutions, the city offers a wealth of opportunities for both local and international investors. The city’s thriving economy is complemented by a dynamic labor force, modern public services, and a commitment to sustainable development.

“Tagum is not just lighting up for Christmas. We are lighting up to show the world our readiness to grow, to welcome investments, and to provide better lives for our people,” Mayor Uy said during his address.

As one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the Philippines, Tagum continues to draw interest from business groups and urban planners. With consistent recognition for good governance and public service innovation, the city sets a standard in local administration.

The lighting of the Holiday Tree is more than a seasonal festivity—it is a powerful symbol of Tagum City’s bright future. As the lights shine over Freedom Park, so too does the city’s potential to become a key player in Mindanao’s Economic and Cultural landscape.
