News | No More Spaghetti Wires: Iloilo City Embraces Modernization with Underground Power Lines

Iloilo City is taking a giant leap forward in urban development with the implementation of the Hybrid Underground Distribution System (HUDS) by MORE Power. This forward-thinking initiative aims to eliminate the clutter of overhead wires that have long plagued the city, especially in historical areas like Calle Real. The result? Safer, cleaner streets that are more visually appealing, while preserving the unique charm of Iloilo’s heritage.

Why It Matters:

The HUDS project is not just about removing unsightly wires. It’s about creating a more organized, sustainable, and visually pleasing urban environment for everyone—residents and visitors alike. Calle Real, a historic district, will benefit greatly from the project, as it can now retain its old-world character while embracing modern infrastructure.

Iloilo Leads the Way:

What makes this initiative even more remarkable is that Iloilo City is the first in Western Visayas to implement the HUDS. By adopting this system, Iloilo sets a strong example of how cities can blend modernization with heritage preservation, offering a glimpse of how the future of urban living can look.

A Safer, More Sustainable Future:

Beyond aesthetics, the underground power lines contribute to the safety and long-term sustainability of the area. With fewer exposed wires, the risk of accidents, especially during storms or other extreme weather, is significantly reduced. The move also reduces maintenance costs in the long run and ensures that power distribution is more reliable.

As Iloilo continues to grow and modernize, the HUDS project marks a significant milestone in shaping the city’s future—one that is both safer and more organized, all while honoring its rich cultural past. It’s a win-win for the Ilonggos, and a shining example for other cities to follow.
