El Gamma Penumbra wins the Asia's Got Talent firs season!!

DAVAO CITY, Philippines
— The Filipino shadow play group El Gamma Penumbra won the first season Asia’s Got Talent, with  Mongolian Khusugtun Ethnic Band came in second, and a Filipino opera singer Gerphil Flores on the Top 3.

The results leaked moments before the finale, which aired on the evening of Thursday, May 14. Social media users began tweeting the news.

The group has been the show's standout “Golden” pick, having received two Golden Buzzers from the judges in the auditions and in the semis.

Meanwhile, Gerphil Flores, who sang “Impossible Dream” in the grand finals, received her third standing ovation on her performance. The finals were predicted to be a close call between El Gamma Penumbra and Flores.

The winner of Asia’s Got Talent will receive a cash prize of US$100,000 and a chance to perform at the Marina Bay Sands.

Asia’s Got Talent is hosted by Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez. Grammy-winning musician David Foster, Taiwanese-American pop idol Vanness Wu, former Spice Girl Melanie C., and Indonesian rock icon Anggun judged the competition.

The winner is determined by public vote, where audience members and viewers at home in Asia can vote for their favorites via SMS, Facebook, or on the show’s official app.

All by himself, plus a few thousand viewers

When Richard Dunn was stuck at the McCarran International Airport overnight, it didn’t occur to him to just read a book, take a nap or watch a movie on his laptop.

What did occur to him was to spend all night making a video of himself lip-syncing to Celine Dion’s version of the Eric Carmen classic “All By Myself” in his very own music video.

Dunn, who grew up in Moncton, works as a lighting designer for corporate entertainment. He now lives in Canton, Georgia.

The video, while inspired by a lonely airport, has received more than 4,000 plays on Vimeo - and counting -  and has been shared in over 49 countries.

Dunn was offered vouchers to be bumped off two consecutive Delta Air Lines flights leaving him the entire night free until the next available flight at 6 a.m.

“I thought, well I don’t have enough time to go to a hotel so what do I do? I’ve got my phone and an empty movie set, lets see what trouble I can get into.”

So he accepted the money and started brainstorming.

First he started looking up songs about travel, but wasn’t feeling inspired.

Then he Googled songs about being alone.

“And then our dear Canadian sister started streaming in my headphones, “All By Myself” and I thought ‘that’s it, that’s pure movie gold.’”

Dunn killed time while the airport cleared out until 2 a.m. and then set to work.

He said Celine Dion is his guilty pleasure —it didn’t take long for him to have the words down.

He asked an airport mechanic for tape which he used to secure his iPhone to a ruler. He’d sandwich the pole between luggage bags to secure it as a sort of tripod.

“I’m just peeing myself laughing listening to this stuff thinking ‘you’re just tired its not that funny,’” he said.

For his big finale, Dunn strapped the camera to a bag and set it on an escalator so the camera zooms out on him as he crescendos.

He said he had to do the take and then sprint to the top of the escalator to catch his bag before it was pinned in the escalator.

In the video Dunn appears outside a women’s washroom singing on the floor and on a ticket counter holding an announcement slip.

He said the cleaning crews were surprisingly undeterred by his video.

“I can only imagine what they see in the LAS airport overnight.”

— Air Supply is coming back in Davao City to do a concert, with the title of "Air Supply Live in Davao". It's been 4 years since the last time  the duo singers performed here in the City. The venue of the concert is in USEP Gym, Obrero, Davao City on Nov. 20, 2012.

Air Supply is an Australian soft rock duo, consisting of Graham Russell as guitarist and singer-songwriter and Russell Hitchcock as lead vocalist. They had a succession of hits worldwide, including eight Top Ten hits in the United States, in the early 1980s. They formed in Mebourne,Australia in 1975 and have included various accompanying musicians and singers.

With their heavily orchestrated, sweet ballads, the Australian soft rock group Air Supply became a staple of early-'80s radio, scoring a string of seven straight Top Five singles. Air Supply, for most intents and purposes, was the duo of vocalists Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell; other members came through the group over the years, yet they only functioned as backing musicians and added little to the group's sound. Hitchcock and Russell met while performing in a Sydney, Australia, production of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1976. "Bourne Legacy" a huge success at The US box office

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Action movie "The Bourne Legacy," with new star Jeremy Renner, raced to the No. 1 spot on U.S. and Canadian box office charts with an estimated $40.3 million in ticket sales over the weekend.

New adult comedy "The Campaign" debuted in second place, winning $27.4 million at domestic theaters. The two new movies knocked three-time box office champion "The Dark Knight Rises" to third place.

"Bourne Legacy" is the fourth movie in the spy franchise that previously starred Matt Damon and has grossed nearly $1 billion around the world. Damon played a CIA assassin with memory loss who tried to discover his true identity while evading the CIA's attempts to kill him.

Universal cast Renner in the new movie in an effort to reboot the series for future sequels. Renner plays agent Aaron Cross, who tries to escape his CIA pursuers with the help of genetic scientist Marta Shearing, played by Rachel Weisz.

Universal and privately held Relativity Media produced "Bourne Legacy" for about $125 million. Opening weekend sales beat Universal's projections for a $35 million debut.

Nikki Rocco, Universal Pictures' president of domestic distribution, said the film performed as expected, and that the studio was happy with its opening weekend.

"It's a validation, it's a successful rebooting of the franchise," she said, adding that it gives Universal an opportunity to continue the Bourne saga.

"The Bourne Legacy" nabbed $48.1 million worldwide over the weekend, bringing its global total to $88.4 million.

"The Campaign" also exceeded pre-weekend forecasts, which had the film debuting with around $20 million. The movie stars Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianakis as two candidates facing off against each other in a race for U.S. Congress.

Dan Fellman, president of theatrical distribution for Warner Bros., said the political comedy played especially well in Washington and Boston as the U.S. presidential campaign gets into full swing.

"We think that the real campaign will add to our 'Campaign'," he said.

"Dark Knight Rises," the final movie in a Batman trilogy starring Christian Bale, took in $19.5 million at North American (U.S. and Canadian) theaters over the weekend. The blockbuster has grossed over $390 million in the U.S. and Canada since its July 20 debut.

"Hope Springs," a new romantic comedy/drama, finished the weekend in the No. 4 spot with $15.6 million. The film stars Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones as an aging couple trying to bring a spark back to their marriage.

"Hope DOES spring," said Rory Bruer, president of distribution at Sony, who expects the film to continue to play well among older audiences.

In fifth place, family film "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" earned $8.2 million during its second weekend in theaters.

Despite doing well overseas, science-fiction reboot "Total Recall" took in a meager $8.1 million its second weekend, taking a tumble from its tepid $26 million opening.

Comcast Corp's Universal Pictures released "Bourne Legacy." "The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Campaign" were distributed by Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc.. Sony Corp's film studio released "Hope Springs," and News Corp's 20th Century Fox studio distributed "Diary of a Wimpy Kid."

Mon Tulfo, Raymart Santiago exchange blows at NAIA 3

→ Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist and TV5 host Ramon Tulfo and actor Raymart Santiago exchanged blows at the NAIA 3 Sunday.

Tulfo said he was simply trying to pacify Claudine Barretto, Santiago's wife, who was allegedly verbally abusing a ground crew when Santiago turned on him. In an interview with radio station DZMM, Tulfo said he had arrived from Davao onboard a Cebu Pacific flight when he chanced upon Barretto scolding ground crew of Cebu Pacific.


Tulfo said he was taking pictures of Barretto while also trying to pacify her when Santiago came up to him and allegedly tried to get his cellphone. He refused, and he said that's when all the trouble started.


Tulfo suffered bruises on his face, and told media that other unidentified men got involved in his altercation with Santiago.


None of the parties involved in the altercation was immediately arrested, even as airport authorities said they were investigating the matter.

The entertainer, whose incredible talent was discovered at an early age, was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. (6:55 p.m. ET) at the Beverly Hilton hotel despite resuscitation efforts, a police spokesman said.
Beverly Hills Police Lt. Mark Rosen said there were "no obvious signs of criminal intent" and that the cause of her death is being investigated.
Houston's bodyguard found her body, said Courtney Barnes, publicist for hip-hop artist Ray J, who was dating the pop diva.
According to her official website, Houston sold more than 170 million albums, singles and videos. But she also struggled with addiction problems over the years.
