MALALAG DAVAO DEL SUR DECLARES STATE OF CALAMITY

MALALAG, Davao del Sur

-- The Municipality of Malalag, Davao del Sur declares state of calamity after it was devastated by the heavy rainfall and it caused a wide flooding and left a huge damage of infra and agricultural products of the Farmers.

According to the GMA Super Radyo Davao during their interview to Sherwin Cesar, the provincial information officer of Davao del Sur, the town experienced a wide flooding and landslide that makes the town under the state of calamity.

It was also reported that there are 2 people dead who lived in Barangay Ibo and Barangay Pitu.

As of this writing, they continue the assessment of the province of how big the damage due to this calamity.

The Davao del Sur PDRRMO send around 1,000 food packs to the affected residents.

Korean and Japanese shipyards expanding in Sta. Cruz, Davao

Korean, Japanese shipyards expanding in Davao to create 40,000 jobs

Hanjin Heavy Industries Corporation Philippines (HHIC Phil.), a South Korean shipyard, will be expanding its ship building capabilities in the Philippines. Hanjin will start its expansion works next year in Davao del Sur.

“It is part of the company’s expansion process overseas,” Davao del Sur Governor Claude Bautista told Edge Davao.

HHIC Phil will put up a shipyard in a 272 hectares industrial park in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. Along with the Korean shipbuilder, a Japanese shipbuilder is also eyeing to put up a yard in Malita, Davao del Sur.

“As of now, the province cannot provide the manpower requirement of each company. That’s why we are preparing as early as today,” the governor said.

Bautista added that they are working with TESDA to train skilled personnel.

Bautista sees 40,000 job positions for welders in Davao next year. Additional jobs for human resource and administrative positions will also be available when these two shipyards start operating.

“I already talked to the president of San Miguel Power Consolidated Corporation (SPCC) and they said that construction can be started since there will [be] enough power supply,” Bautista added.

Update, Davao Occidental:

DAVAO CITY, Davao
-- Aside from casting votes in the barangay elections, voters in Davao del Sur also voted for or against the proposed creation of the new province of Davao Occidental on Monday.

If Davao Occidental comes into being, the province of Davao del Sur, which previously had two legislative districts, will be reduced to one legislative district encompassing nine municipalities and one city.

The plebiscite is expected to yield a positive result, as all political clans in the province supported the proposal to create of Davao Occidental by virtue of Republic Act 10360 passed and approved into law last January 21, 2013. (Ben O. Tesiorna)
