Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte on Thursday issued a strong statement urging transparency and accountability among government officials, following Senator Imee Marcos’ recent remarks concerning her own brother.
“If what Senator Imee is saying is true, then the Filipino people deserve clarity — not excuses,” Duterte said.
He emphasized that his long-standing push for hair follicle drug testing for all government officials is neither new nor personal. According to him, the proposal has always been rooted in the need for integrity and transparency in government.
“For years, we have been at the forefront of advocating hair follicle drug testing for all officials. This is not new. This is not personal. This is about transparency and integrity in government,” he stressed.
Duterte questioned why some officials continue to refuse undergoing such tests.
“Why? What are they hiding? Who are they protecting? If you have nothing to fear, you should have nothing to refuse,” he said.
In light of Senator Marcos’ own statements about her brother, Duterte said their call becomes even more urgent.
“With these revelations coming from his own sister, our call becomes even stronger: All government officials must undergo drug testing. No exemptions. No special treatment.”
He said Filipinos deserve honesty from their leaders.
“The Filipino people deserve honesty. If you are clean, prove it. If not, do not make a fool out of the nation.”
Duterte underscored that the issue goes beyond politics.
“The lives and future of our children are at stake. It is only right that we ensure those leading our country are fully capable — and not under the influence.”
