The government fast track the concrete paving of Sindangan - Bayog - Lakewood Road that connect the Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur. This 79.34-kilometer road project if completed, will reduced the travel time from the "usual 6-hour travel time to 4 hours", DPWH Sec. Mark Villar said.

Statistically grouped with Zamboanga del Sur is the highly urbanized city of Zamboanga, which is geographically separated and a chartered city and governed independently from the province.
The province borders Zamboanga del Norte to the north, Zamboanga Sibugay to the west, Misamis Occidental to the northeast, and Lanao del Norte to the east. To the south is the Moro Gulf.
