DAVAO CITY, Philippines
→ Compostela Valley will still push through its annual 5th Comval Summer Beach Festival starting May 3 despite the lack of financial support from the government due to its still on-going rehabilitation from the Typhoon Pablo tragedy.
“The private sector and owners of the beach resorts are the ones requesting us to push this summer activity,” said provincial tourism officer Christine Dompor during a media briefing held during the newly-opened Seda Hotel in this city.
The activity started with the Summer Pool and Chessfest at the Seaworld Oases in Pantukan slated May 3-19 followed by Men’s Beach Volleyball tournament on May 4-5 at the Beachview Resort in Pindasan, Mabini.
“We will also have our opening beach party Zumbeach, a Zumba at the Beach Bikini Foam Dance Party also at Beachview Resort,” said Dompor.
The other events are the the following: May 11 – Sea Kite Making for Kids and Sea Kite Flying competition at the Boat Landing, Pindasan, Mabini; Fire Dance and Reggae Band Contest at Beachview;
May 12 – Swim the Kopiat Challenge at Beachview; May 18 – Amazing Beach Race at Welborn Beach Resort; Water Volleyball at Magnaga, Pantukan; Waterworld Cosplay and Water Disco at Jienos Garden Resort;
May 19 – Frisbee and Kayaking at Magnaga; May 25 – Bikini Open and DJ Music Mix competition at Magnaga.
Meanwhile in Tagum City, the 7th Summer Sports Festival in the city is slated on May 17 to 26 at the Rotary Park.The events are arnis, aikido, badminton, beach volleyball, 6-men volleyball, chess, darts, dog agility, football, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, softball, table tennis and taekwondo.
The sportsfest is part of the Tagum City Summer Trio Events.
"This is a celebration of sportsmanship and camaraderie through simultaneous tournaments and various sports events,” said City Councilor Oyo Uy. (PNA)
