World News | Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince’ Awakens After 20 Years in Coma?

Saudi Arabia’s 'Sleeping Prince' Reportedly Awakens After 20 Years in Coma

Riyadh – In what could be described as a modern-day miracle, reports have emerged that Saudi Arabia’s "Sleeping Prince," Al-Waleed bin Khaled Al-Saud, has awakened after nearly two decades in a coma.

The son of billionaire Prince Khaled bin Talal, Al-Waleed slipped into a coma in 2005 following a devastating car crash while studying at a UK military college. Since then, he has remained on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, nourished only through a feeding tube.

Doctors had urged the family to withdraw life support in 2015, but Prince Khaled refused, holding onto faith. “If God wanted him to die in the accident, he would already be buried,” he once said.

In 2019, brief movements sparked faint hope — a finger twitch, a slight head turn — but no further progress was reported. Now, unverified claims circulating online suggest the long-unconscious prince has finally opened his eyes.

While official confirmation from the royal family remains pending, the possibility of Prince Al-Waleed's awakening has stirred hearts across the kingdom and beyond.

JUST IN | Fresh from the Philippine Independence Day celebration, Vice President Sara Duterte, Senators Robin Padilla and Imee Marcos, and Atty. Jimmy Bondoc with his wife Atty. Isabel, were spotted walking the lively streets of Kuala Lumpur late at night — joined by Dr. Richard Mata and Atty. Jayvee Hinlo.

What looked like a casual stroll quickly caught attention, as the influential group shared laughs and stories, while also discussing ideas for future national programs.

Their unexpected public appearance abroad stirred curiosity — was it just a friendly night out, or something more political brewing behind the scenes?

World News | Tragedy in the Skies: Air India Flight AI171 Crashes Seconds After Takeoff, 241 Feared Dead

Ahmedabad, India — In a devastating turn of events, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner carrying 242 people crashed just seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Wednesday morning. Authorities fear 241 lives have been lost, making this one of the deadliest aviation disasters in Indian history — and the first fatal crash involving the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Designated Flight AI171, the aircraft was en route to London Gatwick when it disappeared from radar approximately 30 seconds after takeoff. Eyewitnesses on the ground reported a sudden explosion and a fireball tearing through the morning sky, moments before the aircraft slammed into a hostel complex at BJ Medical College in the densely populated Meghani Nagar area.

“I saw flames in the sky — then a thunderous crash,” recounted Pravin Mehta, a local shopkeeper. “There was a deafening roar, and then everything went black with smoke.”

The aircraft, tail number VT-ANB, had been in service with Air India since January 2014 and had logged over 11 years of flight time. Onboard were 230 passengers and 12 crew members, including 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. Indian authorities confirmed that one individual — 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British-Indian dual national — miraculously survived, reportedly escaping through an emergency window amid the chaos.

In addition to the aircraft’s occupants, at least 75 medical students were killed in the hostel building that bore the brunt of the crash. Emergency crews and the Indian Army worked through the night, pulling bodies from the wreckage and providing aid to the injured.

Air India’s parent company, Tata Sons, has issued a statement expressing “deep and profound sorrow,” pledging full cooperation with investigators and immediate compensation for victims’ families. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident “a national tragedy,” and ordered a high-level probe into the crash.

International aviation authorities, including Boeing, India’s DGCA, and the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), are collaborating to determine the cause of the disaster. Early speculation points to a catastrophic mechanical failure or possible bird strike, though officials have cautioned against drawing conclusions ahead of a formal investigation.

The crash of AI171 is the airline’s first major hull loss since the infamous bombing of Air India Flight 182 in 1985 — and a grim milestone as the first fatal accident involving a Boeing 787.

As the sun sets over the smoldering wreckage in Ahmedabad, the world watches — grieving, and waiting for answers.

Techies | Global Launching of Windows 8, and Surface Tablet

Live Blogging October 25, 2012, 10:54 AM

New York City, USA.
Microsoft will officially launch Windows 8 in New York today, with an event starting at 11:15 a.m. eastern time.

Microsoft has redesigned the Windows operating system to be tablet-friendly, after being caught flat-footed when Apple AAPL +0.36% launched the iPad and completely took over the market. It’s also launching its own tablet, the Surface, to compete with the iPad.

It’ll be trying to capture the same magic Apple has when it launches its own products. We’ll see today if that ends up being true.

Here’s a full recap of the event during the Live blogging thru  WSJ Blogs

Mr. Sinofsky is talking about apps, and Microsoft's first ever app storefront -- now familiar from the iPhone and Android smartphones. Sinofsky doesn't talk about how many apps are in the Windows 8 storefront. Some critics are griping about lack of familiar apps for Windows 8. But Microsoft just now is starting to pitch developers on the benefits of Windows 8. The big one: Volume. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has said he expects 400 million Windows 8 phones, tablets and PCs in a year.

The Surface

Panos Panay is demoing the Surface right now.

"You get perfect clarity and beauty because of the screen size. It's not a standard size you get off the manufacturing line. This panel was designed from the ground up in Redmond."

There are 200 custom components built into the Surface.

The Surface has tons of space thanks to an extra slot for a memory card. "It's important, my library is important because it keeps me sane."

You can have up to 128 gigabytes of storage with that card -- pretty much unheard of in tablets.

He's demoing games now, including a racing game called Hydro Thunder. too bad he crashed into the wall a few times.

"It's great graphics" -- especially the explosion when Panay's boat blows up.

"When I talk about seamless transitions the surface team focused on, this is where it comes to life."
He stopped to pose quickly for a photo with the touch cover and the Surface.
