Infront of the Abreeza Mall |
DAVAO CITY, Philippines
-- Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Ramon Jimenez, Jr. early on shared his vision that Davao is the "largest fruit market" in this part of the world. Following through, our department and its infrastructure arm, Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Authority (TIEZA), and ACCENDO Commercial Corporation, owning company of Abreeza Mall in Davao City, have signed an agreement to put up the Asian Fruit Market (Phase 1) in Abreeza Mall, Davao City, Mindanao.
The Asian Fruit Market (Phase 1) will be a short-term venue to showcase the agricultural produce of Mindanao particularly offering high value fruits, commercial crops, root crops, and vegetables. The project aims to encourage active involvement and participation of the farming communities in the regions of Mindanao and eventually establish in Mindanao one facility to be one of the largest fruit market exchange centers in Asia.
ACCENDO has expressed full support for the tourism efforts of the national government and specifically for the Asian Fruit Market (Phase 1) and will provide the DOT and TIEZA, free of charge, 1,538.94 sq. m. floor area located in front of the mall and across the Seda Abreeza Hotel.
The DOT through TIEZA shall build the market with designated areas for fresh fruits, processed and value-added products, and a common dining and events area that make for a vibrant convergence point for tourists the whole year round.
The project is also engaging the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Davao City Agriculture Office and the Davao City Tourism Operations Office. The Asian Fruit Market (Phase 1) will have spaces leased to producers and entrepreneurs from all over Mindanao and is scheduled to open in April 2016.")
